Convertible Crib - How to Pick a New One

!±8± Convertible Crib - How to Pick a New One

Here are some basic things to keep in mind when buying a convertible crib.

If you already have some crib bedding or furniture that you like for your nursery, look for a crib that goes along with that style. You'll be looking at this furniture for a while, and it would be nice if it matched.

If you don't have anything for the nursery yet, and this is the first piece you're buying, then enjoy the browse-around until you find something that fits your style, budget, and the gender of your baby if you know it.

If you've chosen to buy a convertible crib, then the next decision is what type do you want. Convertible cribs come in what is termed 3-in-1, 4-in-1, and 5-in-1 styles.

The 3-in-1 crib converts from a crib, to a daybed, to a toddler bed.

The 4-in-1 bed converts from a crib, to a toddler bed, to a daybed, to a full-sized bed.

The 5-in-1 bed converts from a crib, to a toddler bed, to a daybed, to a loveseat, to a full-sized bed.

The 3-in-1 crib is the shortest used crib of the convertible types. Depending on how your child grows, s/he can grow out of a toddler bed by the time they reach school age.

A 4-in-1 and a 5-in-1 crib, on the other hand, will last your child for a lifetime, with no other beds to buy. A thing to consider.

One thing to look for with a convertible crib, that seems to be missing from other articles on this subject, is if it can be converted backwards. Not all can. If you intend to make this investment for you child so s/he can inherit the bed they've used for years to use for their own children, then whether it can be converted back to a crib would be a serious consideration when buying one.
